Muscat: Rains, thunder, lightning and heavy winds lashed a number of governorates of the Sultanate of Oman on the new year eve on Friday under the influence of low pressure Al Azm.

The low pressure impact is expected to last until next week with light to medium rainfall. In Muscat Governorate, rains flooded many roads slowing the traffic.

“The activity of convective rain clouds continues over the governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi and North Al Batinah, with rainfall of varying intensity in parts of the Governorate of Muscat.

Cloud formation continues on the Al Hajar Mountains and adjacent areas, with the flow of high and medium clouds over most of the Sultanate’s governorates,”

the Directorate General of Meteorology said.
