Muscat: Record tenth times winner, Dhofar, will meet Al Suwaiq in a crucial fixture at the quarterfinal of 2021/2022 HM football Cup. Both teams met in the final match of the previous edition and Dhofar were crowned as champions after defeating Al Suwaiq 5-1.
The draw of the coveted cup took place on Sunday at Seeb Stadium and unveiled for another top clash between Fanja and Al Nasr. Seeb will meet Sur in another tight encounter while Al Rustaq will face Nizwa in the same round.
From last-eight round onwards, first and second leg matches will be held which will give better chances for teams in case if defeat happens in the first game. The home matches will be held on January 19 and 20 while away games will be scheduled on February 10 and 11.
The Northern Batinah team, Al Suwaiq, will look this time for different show in order to clinch the fourth title this season after their last cup in 2016/2017.
On the other hand, Dhofar players will try to rekindle their best memories of the last season and eye chasing records and claiming their 11th title in history.
The only first division league representative, Sur, will try to defeat Seeb and move further in the prestigious competition while the Seeb team will not miss the golden opportunity to continue in their best show this season and compete in both domestic competitions including league and cup championships.
Both teams including Al Rustaq and Nizwa have a historic chance to reach into semis for first time and get inch closer to the coveted cup.
After an absence of seven years from their last title in 2014, Fanja will target to win Al Nasr and get closer to the title but Salalah representatives will work hard to return into triumphs loop as the team crowned the HM Cup champion for five times and last cup was in 2018.
Mohammed Ahmed al Amri, General Manager of Sporting activities at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth was the chief guest of the draw in presence of OFA officials.
