London, 20 Sep (ONA) — Thomas Tuchel took over at Chelsea in January of 2021 with the club floundering in ninth position in the Premier League. In the six months that followed, the German guided the London side to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League, an FA Cup final and they won the Champions League.
With another few months under his belt in England and a full summer transfer window to shape the team into what he wants it to be, Tuchel’s Blues are looking very impressive in the opening weeks of this campaign.
After defeating Tottenham 3-0 away from home on Sunday, they are now joint top of the Premier League with Liverpool, having conceded just one goal and having scored 12. This, paired with an opening day win in the Champions League against Zenit St Petersburg, means it has been the perfect start to the new season.
The summer signings of Romelu Lukaku and Saul Niguez will bolster the squad, but it’s the former who could really take Chelsea to the next level this season.
In his second spell at the club and fresh off a Serie A-winning season with Inter, Lukaku has hit the ground running, scoring four goals in five games so far.
They have already seen off the likes of Arsenal away from home and now Tottenham, with their only dropped points coming away to Liverpool in a match in which they were down to 10 men following a red card for Reece James before half time.
This Chelsea side are strong in every position and the inclusion of Lukaku seems like the icing on the cake. If they continue in this current form, they will be a force to be reckoned with both domestically and in Europe.
