Pace of COVID-19 spread in Oman at its fastest so far in February

Muscat: The Sultanate recorded the highest rate of COVID-19 infections since the start of the pandemic during February.
In the first eight days of the month, 42 deaths were recorded.

Ibrahim Al-Maimani, data analyst and social activist, said “the Sultanate logged 18,000 new cases in the first 8 days of February, with a daily average of 2,253.

Over the entire month in January, there were 33,272 new cases at an average of 1,073 per day. Thus, the daily rate in February is the highest since the start of the pandemic.”

“In the first 8 days of February, the Sultanate recorded a recovery of 14,597 patients at a rate of 1,825 recoveries per day. In January, there were 14,733 recoveries at a daily average of 475 per day,” Al Maimani added.

According to data, the number of active cases also increased to 22,965 an In February, the number of inpatients in hospitals also continued to rise. At the beginning of February, there were 326 such cases rising to 409 cases yesterday. This is an increase of 83 cases at a rate of 25 percent.

As for intensive care cases, their number also increased, At the beginning of February, there were just 52 cases which rose to 69 yesterday, an increase of 33 percent.

Forty-two deaths were recorded in the eight days of February whereas the total number of deaths in January was 30. In December, there were just 3 deaths.

Al Maimani said: “As for the hospitalisation cases during the last 24 hours, a significant increase was observed. Over 100 cases were recorded during the first four 4 days of this month. This naturally affected the number of inpatients and the patients in ICU and deaths,” he said.
