Former Oman captain Vaibhav bids adieu

MUSCAT: In the razzmatazz of WCL 2 drama and ICC T20 World Cup anticipation, former Oman captain Vaibhav Wategaonkar bid the country a quiet adieu after his tenure with his employer Khimji Ramdas ended recently.

An elegant left-handed batter, Vaibhav represented Muscat CT in the Premier League, country’s topmost domestic competition, for 18 years, leading them to many memorable title triumphs. Representing Oman, he played a number of high quality knocks and led the country to many memorable victories.

Recognising his long service and valuable contribution to the team’s success, Anil Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas, presented Vaibhav with a gift as a token of appreciation at a farewell dinner held in his honour.

“Thank you Vaibhav for being an integral part of not just the Muscat team but also a part of the journey of the Oman team in its formative years to the current phenomena that we have become on the global stage as a leading high performing Associate nation. We wish you and your family much success and happiness in your future endeavours,” said Pankaj Khimji, Chairman, Oman Cricket Board.

“Vaibhav was not just the pillar of Muscat Cricket Team but also a big player for Oman. He was a quality batsman and led both the teams to victories single-handedly on a number of occasions. While we are going to miss his services, we wish him the very best and good luck for his future,” commented Madhu Jesrani, Secretary, Oman Cricket and a long-time mentor of Muscat CT.

“It was always a delight to watch him bat. He was one of the key batters for Muscat Cricket Team. We will miss him for a long time to come,” said his former team mate and coach Wilson Burboz.
