Cyclone Shaheen: Two workers die as housing area collapse

Muscat: National Committee for Emergency Management on Sunday said agencies recovered the bodies of two workers of Asian nationalities from the rubbles after a part of the Jabal Ali mountain collapsed onto the worker’s housing in the al Rusyl Industrial area in Muscat.

Earlier, the agency had reported the death of a child in al Amerat area.

Cyclone Shaheen wreaked havoc in the Muscat governorate as low-lying areas and seaside houses were inundated in the heavy rains and winds.

With the centre of tropical cyclone Shaheen just 65 km from the coast of Muscat and the intensity of rain and wind have been increasing since Sunday morning. The cyclone is 110 km away from Musanah, 190 km from Suhar with a wind speed of around 65 to 75 knots.

The cyclone is expected to make landfall in Oman around 5 pm to 8 pm between Saham and al Musannah on Sunday.
