The Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care & Research Center (SQCCC) in Muscat, Oman, is a Quaternary care level center providing care for adult patients with solid malignancies (No hematological malignancies).
SQCCC is seeking to appoint Anesthesia technician, who is a highly motivated individual to develop her/his professional career within the SQCCC.
The SQCCC will open its doors to patients in the 3rd quarter of 2020. The center is in a family-friendly area, while offering young singles many options for an active outdoor and social scene. The SQCCC is aspiring to be a high-tech center with innovative -patient and staff centered- technologies. A work environment that is fun and rewarding.
Qualifications (minimum):
- One year certificate as Anesthesia technician
- A minimum of 6 Years of experience as Anesthesia technician
Skills and Requirements:
- Recent experience working in secondary level hospital or above.
- Excellent (verbal and written) communication skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with staff.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
- Ability to act professionally under pressure.
- Time management skills.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Cleans, sterilizes and sets up all types of anesthesia equipment.
- Provides daily maintenance of all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctions.
- Maintains a sufficient inventory of all equipment and supplies.
- Checks OR schedules and determines special equipment needed for procedures or in consultation with supervisor or anesthesia provider.
- Provides technical assistance to clinical staff during procedures. Retrieves supplies and equipment as requested.
- Cleans and restocks all anesthesia carts and locations at start of day, between procedures and at end of day per cart protocol.
- Insures carts are stored in designated location when not in use.
- Assists in movement of supplies within the Operating Room.
- Performs daily checks for outdated meds and supplies.
- Removes all items from anesthesia machine main shelf and cleans shelf.
- Untangles and completely cleans all cables (i.e. blood pressure cuff, ECG cable and individual wires, pulse oximetry and invasive blood pressure lines).
- Cleans all minor equipment (Bair Hugger Warming Unit, blood warmer, twitch monitor, holders for invasive lines, IV poles, IMED pumps, Infusion Pumps, etc.).
- Empties waste after every case and relines trash container with new red bag.
- Checks sharps container and replaces if more than 3/4 full.
- Removes suction canister and tubing and replaces with new canister and tubing, connecting all parts so suction is functional.
- At end of procedure, removes minor anesthesia equipment requiring decontamination (laryngoscope blades, laryngeal mask airways, fiber optic scopes).
- Replaces Anesthesia breathing circuit. Connects all parts so that system is ready for use.
- Confirms OR has required equipment (anesthesia machine, nerve stimulator, warming unit, blood warmer, IV infusion pump) and provides any missing equipment.
- Reports equipment malfunctions, deviations from standards or unusual occurrences to supervisor. Trouble shoots equipment malfunctions. Removes malfunctioning equipment from service, tags malfunctioning equipment with information detailing problem, and replaces with functioning equipment. Transports, as necessary, malfunctioning equipment to Biomedical Engineering. Assists in repairs and preventive maintenance procedures, as appropriate. Reassembles and returns equipment to service.
- Demonstrates proper care of equipment and supplies. Performs monthly checks of equipment and documentation in log.
- Makes effective use of department and hospital resources to minimize waste and prevent damage. Maintains and submits accurate daily records, as required. Completes scheduled and assigned tasks under normal conditions within prescribed time parameters with accuracy and consistency.
- Orders pharmaceutical supplies daily and maintains adequate par levels to meet department needs.
- Orders unit medical supplies and maintains adequate par levels to meet department needs.
- Demonstrates flexibility by productive responses to scheduling changes or emergencies. Ensures organization and completion of work within allotted time and ready to assume duties at scheduled time.
- Attends continuing education related to scope of care on the unit.
- Maintains infection control and safety awareness, functions accordingly and initiates corrective action when indicated.
- Acts as a professional role model.
- Supports a work environment for the provision of a high standard of patient care.
- Complies with established policies and procedures.
- Support and mentor junior staff.
- Maintains effective communication with team members.
- Complies with continuous professional development requirements.
- Performs other functions related duties as assigned.
Salary will be based upon availability of the grade, experience and qualification, using Oman Medical Bylaw.

The SQCCC is aspiring to be a high-tech center with innovative -patient and staff centered- technologies. A work environment that is fun and rewarding.
Qualifications (minimum):
- One year certificate in CSSD
- Minimum 15 years of experience in CSSD
Skills and Requirements:
- Experience working in secondary level hospital or above.
- Experience as a leader
- Excellent (verbal and written) communication skills
- Computer skills, including email, internet and Microsoft Office programs
- Up-to-date knowledge in CSSD
- Ability to effectively collaborate with clinical and non-clinical staff
- Ability to act professionally under pressure
- Time management skills
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Managing the CSSD operations to ensure that SOPs and sterilization protocols are being adhered to.
- Ensure that proper records are maintained for sterilization procedures, sterilized items, damaged items, equipment maintenance, and supplies
- Identify any process gaps and work on solutions to bridge the gaps to ensure better efficiency in working
- Prepare and maintain rosters for CSSD Technicians
- Review any ‘adverse incidents’, complaints or infection control incidents reported against CSSD performance and take corrective measures
- Collaborate with Human Resources and Head of Medical Support Services in the performance reviews and hiring, leave management, on-boarding and training of CSSD Technicians
- Maintains infection control and safety awareness, functions accordingly and initiates corrective action when indicated.
- Acts as a professional role model.
- Supports a work environment for the provision of a high standard of patient care.
- Manages resources (material, equipment and manpower) during assigned shifts and when applicable.
- Complies with established policies and procedures.
