Al Maawali gets insights into functioning of Saudi rail network

Minister Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, who was accompanied by the Undersecretary of Transport, was “briefed on the experience of Saudi Arabia in the rail and train sector, as well as on the ways to cooperate with and benefit from it.

Muscat: Oman’s Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has gained crucial insights into the functioning of the railway network in Saudi Arabia, during a visit to the country.

Minister Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, who was accompanied by the Undersecretary of Transport, was “briefed on the experience of Saudi Arabia in the rail and train sector, as well as on the ways to cooperate with and benefit from it, within the framework of the Omani delegation’s current visit to Saudi Arabia,” said the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in a statement.

The current spate of cooperation between Oman and Saudi Arabia also includes the Omani-Saudi Technical Forum, which was launched in Riyadh on Tuesday, November 2. The forum aims to enhance cooperation between Omani and Saudi emerging technology companies, open the door for commercial expansion of technology companies and enhance investment in innovation and technology in both countries.

Meetings were also held between the Council of Saudi Chambers (CSC), led by President Ajlan Al Ajlan, and a number of officials from Oman’s MTCIT, as well as business owners and companies from both countries, to discuss cooperation opportunities in the sectors of transport, logistics, digital economy and technology.

“The meeting comes in light of the direction of the two wise leaderships in the Kingdom and the Sultanate of Oman, for continuous coordination and expansion of trade and investment cooperation, and the economic movement witnessed by the relations between the two countries through the establishment of the Saudi-Omani Coordination Council and the Joint Business Council,” said Al Ajlan, in a statement published by the CSC.

In this context, Dr Ali Al Shidhani, undersecretary for communications, IT and MTCIT, added, “Saudi-Omani relations are witnessing steady growth and prosperity, and Omani technical companies are looking forward to opening new markets, growing business operations and exchanging pioneering experiences with their counterparts in the Kingdom.”

Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, undersecretary for transport, said, “The Omani delegation includes the largest companies in the field of transport and logistics, and there are great investment opportunities for Saudi business owners in these promising sectors in the Sultanate.”
