Hatchery Manager
Responsibilities
Develop the department’s objectives & KPIs in line with (Company) overall approved strategy to achieve primary goals, in addition to setting objectives for the department’s different functions/ individuals where applicable.
Review departmental strategic results and ensure that corrective actions of insufficient results are well taken and properly implemented.
Develop the department annual budget and ensure all employees within the department are working within the assigned budget by setting the required targets and responsibilities.
Develop the department’s policies & procedures in line with (Company) standards, laws, and regulations and ensure proper implementation of the same.
Manage the Hatchery department in terms of the collection of eggs from breeders, and the safe unloading into the hatchery in order to produce the highest quality chicks at the highest percentage hatch rate possible with the lowest cost.
Manage and coordinate the hatchery activities such as egg care, incubation, hatching, preparation and shipping of chicks.
Coordinate with the Quality Department/ Veterinary Team in terms of spraying and injecting of vaccinations to prevent potential diseases and infections.
Oversee the grading of eggs by Hatchery staff, and conduct planned and ad-hoc checking on eggs for shell defects and any abnormalities, in addition to supervising the rejection of any flawed eggs.
Set and monitor controls such as but is not limited to temperature, humidity, and light throughout the hatchery cycles, and ensure proper fumigation and sanitation of eggs.
Manage the identification of potential problems related to fertility and hatchability, and the disposal of non-fertile ones, in addition to grading hatched chicks into good chicks and bad chicks to be transferred to where appropriate.
Monitor and manage the Hatchery facilities’ equipment and repairs and address maintenance issues with relevant staff.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science or related field.
Minimum of 10 – 12 years of experience in the same or related field, with at least 2 years in a Hatchery management/ supervisory position.
