Oncology/chemotherapy Nurse
Qualifications:
BSc in Nursing+ 3 years of experience with at least in oncology/chemotherapy.
Or
BSc in nursing+ Diploma/specialization certificate in any cancer related certificate not less than 9 months or equivalent+ one year of experience
Skills and Requirements:
Recent work experience of at least 1 year in an adult cancer center/unit.
Basic General Nursing skills
Nursing process
Excellent (verbal and written) communication skills
Basic Computer skills, including email, internet and Microsoft Office programs
Job Responsibilities:
Provides Delivers oncology nursing care to patients.
Performs assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of nursing care for patients.
Monitors patients, interprets data, recognizes abnormalities and intervenes with appropriate nursing measures
Uses professional judgment and critical thinking in the delivery of care in accordance with established standards, hospital policies and procedures, and consistent with the plan of care
Provides both team and individualized patient and family care
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate positive patient care outcomes
Ensures the maintenance of vascular access devices and for the proper use of infusion pumps
Provides the safe delivery of IV chemotherapeutic medications, parental chemotherapy, biotherapy and hormonal therapy
Demonstrates ability to interpret chemotherapy orders accurately.
Demonstrates proficiency in the safe administration of chemotherapy and disposal of chemotherapy wastes and equipment as per guidelines.
Demonstrates the ability to identify signs and symptoms of oncologic emergencies and provide management appropriately and immediately.
Identify acute local and systemic reactions as a result of extravasation or anaphylaxis in association with specific chemotherapy drugs and appropriate interventions.
Administers medications and observes and documents effectiveness.
Recognizes and reports adverse reactions immediately.
Assesses and reassesses patient complaint of pain and document findings.
Serves a key role in managing the patients’ pain control and palliative care plans.
Ensures safe delivery of supportive infusion therapy of drugs and blood products.
Recognizes emergency situations and demonstrates effective actions.
Completes nursing documents accurately and in a timely manner.
Provides patient education as required.
Collects and analyzes data and formulates a family-centered plan of care.
Evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment plan using the most current evidence.
Modifies the plan of care based on the effectiveness of the treatment and the patient/family response to the plan.
Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.
Works in an inter-professional team setting with multiple responsibilities.
Prepares, administers, and documents the administration of medications.
Maintains accountability for narcotics and controlled drugs.
Sets up equipment for and assists physicians with procedures.
Performs a wide range of nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique.
Ensure comprehensive handover of patients when transfer of care.
Maintains a safe, clean and organized environment for the patient/family/visitors and staff.
Demonstrates priority setting skills and timeliness in responding to patient needs.
Recognizes when patient care needs extend beyond the limits of personal ability and consults appropriate resources.
Maintains infection control and safety awareness, functions accordingly and initiates corrective action when indicated.
Maintains the confidentiality of patient/family information.
Acts as a patient advocate.
Acts as a professional role model.
Complies with established policies and procedures.
Supports and mentor junior staff
Maintains effective communication with team members.
Complies with continuous professional development requirements.
Performs other functions related to duties assigned.
Salary will be based upon experience, qualification, and grade availability.
