Oncology/Chemotherapy Nurse
Qualifications:
BSc in Nursing+ minimum 3 years’ experience in nursing
Skills and Requirements:
Recent work experience of at least 1 year in an adult cancer center/unit.
Formal training in cancer care and/ or chemotherapy administration (preferred).
Basic General Nursing skills
Excellent (verbal and written) communication skills
Job Responsibilities:
Provides nursing care to patients with cancer.
Performs assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of nursing care for patients.
Monitors patients, interprets data, recognizes abnormalities and intervenes with appropriate nursing measures.
Uses professional judgment and critical thinking in the delivery of care in accordance with established standards, hospital policies and procedures, and consistent with the plan of care.
Provides individualized and centered patient and family care.
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate positive patient care outcomes
Ensures safe delivery of medications including chemotherapy, biotherapy and hormonal therapy.
Demonstrates proficiency in the safe disposal of clinical and cytotoxic waste as per guidelines.
Assesses and reassesses patient complaints of pain.
Ensures safe delivery of supportive infusion therapy of drugs and blood products.
Recognizes, intervenes and reports adverse reactions immediately.
Recognizes emergency situations and demonstrates effective actions.
Completes nursing documents accurately and in a timely manner.
Provides patient education as required.
Collects and analyzes data and formulates a family-centered plan of care.
Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.
Works in an inter-professional team setting with multiple responsibilities.
Maintains accountability for all nursing care.
Performs a wide range of nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique.
Demonstrates priority setting skills and timeliness in response to patient needs.
Maintains infection control and safety awareness, functions accordingly and initiates corrective action when indicated.
Maintains the confidentiality of patient/family information.
Ensure comprehensive handover of patients when transfer of care.
Maintains a safe, clean and organized environment for the patient/family/visitors and staff.
Acts as a patient advocate.
Acts as a professional role model.
Complies with established policies and procedures.
Supports and mentor junior staff
Maintains effective communication with team members.
Complies with continuous professional development requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned.
