Investment in agri-fishery sector to generate 1,600 jobs

As many as 1,600 Omanis can look forward to work with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR), according to the General Directorate of Animal Wealth at the Ministry. The ministry has earlier announced a total investment for all RO 411 million in 29 which will create more employment opportunities. Out of these, as many as 11 projects are in poultry and animal husbandry.

“These initiatives will also enhance the food investment sector in the Sultanate, which has witnessed significant growth over the past years,” Dr Saud bin Hammoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture Fisheries and Water Resources, has said. Besides, village-based agriculture and fisheries industries and home-based poultry businesses will be receiving a major boost as the ministry’s RO 12 million investment in the agricultural sector is implemented, according to the sources at the Poultry Projects Development Department at the Ministry.

A number of projects which are expected to begin production in the coming months based on the nature of the initiatives will also create 316 job opportunities for Omanis, according to the Director General of Animal Wealth at the ministry.

“The four agreements signed last week aim to invest in the agricultural sector to enhance food resources in the Sultanate of Oman through the use of modern agricultural technologies,” said Eng Khalfan al Shargi, General Director of Animal wealth at the ministry. “There are 4 projects currently identified in order to provide the support out of which two are for animal wealth. Rabbit rearing and another one for ruminants, sheep and goats are currently under the pipeline,” he added.
