Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will mark on Tuesday, January 11, the 2nd anniversary of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s accession to the throne, succeeding Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimour.
On a day which marked with golden letters in the history of the Sultanate of Oman, the Omani people received their Sultan with loyalty and gratitude, “for the qualities and abilities that qualified him to carry this trust” to continue the process of building the nation and a blessed renewed renaissance.
Since he has taken over the nation, His Majesty has called upon the loyal citizens of the Sultanate of Oman to continue preserving the achievements of the Renaissance and to work for the sake of the elevation of this country and its advancement for a better life. With “Oman Vision 2040”, the Sultanate of Oman has been following clear objectives that cover various aspects and achieve ambitions.
Following the path set by the late HM, the importance of listening directly from the people of this nation, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik continues to meet the loyal sons of Oman from all governorates, with the presence of modern institutions that keep pace with democratic and consultative work, represented by the Council of Oman (Shura and State Councils), and the municipal councils in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
His Majesty the Sultan has created a comprehensive view of various aspects, which are based on legislation, such as the Basic Law of the State, the Municipal Scheme, Municipal Affairs, work programmes, such as the “Oman Vision 2040”.
In keeping with lowering the public debt and diversifying the economy, Sultan Haitham introduced deeper economic reforms in line with the late Qaboos’ economic initiatives.
The focus remains on the implementation of Vision 2040, a strategy focused on moving towards a knowledge-based economy. In line with the initiative, the Sultanate recently issued its 10th Five Year Plan for the period between 2021 and 2025, which intends to achieve economic growth and reduce public debt through numerous measures that emphasize the involvement of the private sector and the younger generation, foreign direct investment and economic diversification.
To reconcile the legacy of the late Sultan with Oman’s domestic and foreign challenges, Sultan Haitham adopted policies that sought both continuity and reform.
Throughout his 49-year rule, the Late His Majesty Sultan bin Qaboos transformed Oman into a modernized country by launching a series of schemes that covered social and economic aspects of the Omani society and established well-built infrastructure.
The best thing with which we immortalize the late HM’s achievements is to preserve what he accomplished.
