Family affairs panel discusses media impact on the young

MUSCAT: The National Committee for Family Affairs on Monday held a meeting during which it discussed the impact of media means on young people, a proposal on maternity leave for working women and cases reported to the Public Prosecution Department. The meeting was held under the auspices of HE Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najar, Minister of Social Development, chairperson of the committee.

The National Committee for Family Affairs, established under Royal Decree No 12/2007, specialises in drafting policies and programmes on family welfare. It is tasked with coordinating with official authorities and voluntary organisations and encouraging research in family matters.

The committee also follows up and implements decisions and recommendations issued within the context of international conferences. In addition, it offers opinions on related agreements and liaises with Arab and international committees and councils. — ONA
