Oman Bodybuilding Committee (OBC) is gearing up to organise the 17th edition of Oman Open bodybuilding and physique championship. The championship will take place on March 17 to 19 in Muscat. The top domestic bodybuilding event is inline to the scope of OBC in development of bodybuilding and physique sports in the Sultanate of Oman. Also, the event aims to select the top talents for the national bodybuilding team.
Dr Salim Said al Bahri, Chairman of OBC, said the OBC will begin the new season of 2022 with the Open bodybuilding and physique championship. “The event is open for all the nationals and expatriate bodybuilders and there will be fees for the participants in the championship and for the spectators to attend. The doors are open for all the champions to take part in the tournament and to show all their top performances. Only the bodybuilders who accomplished medals in 2021 are not allowed to participate in this edition of the event as those will be under evaluation of the national coaching staff for the forthcoming events,” he added.
The chief of OBC confirmed that the national bodybuilders cannot take part in the international IFBB championships and events even under their personal cost unless attending as participants in the domestic championship. “ The OBC has made some restrictions on any bodybuilder to participate in an international tournament which is not under IFBB. This step will assist in having a proper improvement of the technical performance and avoiding the players to participate in non-official tournaments.” he ended.
In last November, Omani bodybuilder Emad al Balushi and Mazin al Rahbi impressed at the IFBB World bodybuilding and fitness championship in Spain. Al Balushi had clinched gold medal in his debut in the beginner men’s physique category while Al Rahbi bagged silver medal in the 85 kg category.
