Oman, Austria seek to enhance tech ties

MUSCAT: Sayyid Badr Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, received here on Wednesday Dr Margarete Schrambock, Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs in Austria.

The two sides reviewed ways of enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation in the fields of economy, digital technology and exchanging expertise.

During the meeting, a presentation was given on the Foreign Ministry’s role in utilizing knowledge and technology through its cooperation with the country’s regional and international partners.

The meeting was attended by a number of senior officials from both sides.

VISIT TO OCCI

The Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) also received the Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs of the Republic of Austria.

Eng Ridha bin Juma al Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the OCCI, received Dr Margarete Schramböck and her delegation, in the context of strengthening economic cooperation between the Sultanate and the Republic of Austria.

Ridha al Saleh stressed the importance of commercial visits and coordinating bilateral meetings between businessmen from the two countries in order to enhance trade and investment relations.

The Chairman also reviewed the economic sectors targeted by the Sultanate of Oman in its future plan aimed at diversifying sources of income, which are manufacturing industries, tourism, food security, transport, logistics and mining, referring as well to other supporting sectors, namely energy, information technology, health and education.

“The Sultanate has recently sought to improve the business environment and make it attractive to foreign capital and investors, by amending laws and legislation in line with the requirements of the current and upcoming stage,” Ridha al Saleh said

Dr Margarete Schramböck, emphasised the improvements and modifications that the Sultanate of Oman witnessed during the last stage in the investment and legislative environment.

The minister indicated that Oman Vision 2040 works to place the Sultanate of Oman in the ranks of developed countries, stressing that this visit aims to open broader horizons of trade and investment relations between the two countries. — ONA
