Mutual respect & peace pivots of Sultanate of Oman policies

MUSCAT: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy (pictured), Foreign Minister, said that the Sultanate of Oman’s foreign policy is based on strategic principles that are constant and far-reaching. The pivots of these principles are mutual respect and the country’s belief in peace as an approach to domestic and foreign policies.

The Sultanate of Oman seeks to foster cooperation and friendship with everyone in a manner that doesn’t harm anyone.

In an interview with the Egyptian newspaper Akhbar El Yom, the foreign minister said that the Arab countries should show more solidarity and intensify and coordinate efforts to address their top issues and challenges and achieve the desired effectiveness on the international level.

On Yemen, Sayyid Badr affirmed that serious work requires optimism and entails positive energy. “We will spare no effort and will continue to support all efforts to stop the conflict in Yemen and bring all parties to the negotiating table in order to reach peaceful political solutions to the crisis,” the minister said.

Commenting on the Iranian nuclear talks, the foreign minister confirmed that the return to the nuclear agreement between Iran and the group of major countries is an important strategic necessity for the security of the region and the world.

This would inaugurate a new phase of constructive cooperation in the region and between the various parties.

Regarding the Syrian crisis, the foreign minister said that the Sultanate of Oman has remained steadfast in its attitude since the outbreak of the crisis in Syria and

has long called for the return

of Damascus to the Arab League, affirming that any differences should be addressed within the framework of the Arab family.

The foreign minister expressed his regret over the events taking place in Libya as a result of the parties’ failure to complete the transitional process and bring stability to the country, calling for an end to polarisation and foreign interference in the Libyan affairs.

Answering a question about the developments in the Palestinian cause, the foreign minister reiterated the importance of achieving Palestinian reconciliation in a way that restores the strength of Palestinian cause in the international level.

The resumption of dialogue with the Israelis should be based on Palestinian consensus and a sustainable vision within the framework of the international legitimacy and the legal references of peace and the Arab peace initiative.
