The Sultanate of Oman on Monday reported nearly 6,000 cases (5,693) for three days, including nine deaths.
With the recovery rate showing a slowdown, 89 patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, taking the total number of inpatients to 299, including 53 in the Intensive Care Units (ICU).
Meanwhile, health experts have warned that chances of hospitalisation cannot be ruled out due to Omicron infection.
The Covid-19 can be still dangerous for unvaccinated, patients having medical issues though it is said not to be that life-threatening like the Delta variant.
“Patients hospitalised with Omicron are said to be recovering faster without having to spend time in Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
“As with other variants, the elderly and those with chronic diseases are the most vulnerable,” they said.
The WHO said the Covid-19 variant will be more contagious than Omicron, but the real question is whether it will be more deadly.
Noting that Covid is not over yet, WHO said, “You won’t have to wear a mask forever and you won’t have to physically distance forever. But for now, we need to keep doing this. We will get out of this, but we’re not quite there yet.”
