Seeb, Al Nasr play out goalless draw

Muscat, Feb 21

The second leg match between Seeb and Al Nasr on March 3 at Seeb Stadium will decide the qualifier to the final clash of the 2021-22 His Majesty’s Cup football championship as the first-leg match ended in a goalless draw at Al Saada Stadium on Monday.

Al Nasr will have better advantage in the away game as scoring any goal will see them through if the match ends in a draw. On the other hand, Seeb will play and utilise the fans and home support and eye on ending the fixture on a triumphant note.

In the first-leg semifinal at Al Saada Stadium, the match commenced with both teams tightening their defences to avoid conceding any early goal.

After each move, the hosts quickly returned back and closed all the gaps for any Seeb strikers movement. The visitors dominated and managed to enter Al Nasr’s side as they pressed hard towards goalkeeper Ibrahim al Mukhaini.

Seeb’s forward line including Abdulaziz al Maqbali, Mohsin al Ghassani and Arshad al Alawi faced difficulty to penetrate the strong defense line of Al Nasr.

Seeb had to wait till 40th minute to create the first real scoring attempt in the game.

Abdulaziz al Ghilani passed a ground ball to striker Abdulaziz al Maqbali who was very close to put the ball into the net but he fell down in the penalty box. Referee Yaqoob Adbulbaqi decided to continue without taking an action of penalty. The first half ended with a goalless draw.

GOLDEN CHANCE

Oman national teach coach Branko Ivankovic and his coaching staff were among those in attendance at the stadium with a good turnout of Al Nasr and Seeb fans.

The hosts entered the second half strongly as they pressed hard and monitored the middle line perfectly to create more scoring opportunities.

Al Nasr’s national coach Ahmed Salim instructed his players to continue exploring for the opening goal. Fahmi Dorbeen missed a golden opportunity as his header hit with the bar in the 57th minute. Seeb’s coach changed ploy of attacking after aggression from Al Nasr strikers.

Later, Seeb managed to create some chances as Amjad al Harthi’s cross went in front of Eid al Farsi and Abdulaziz al Ghilani but both failed to put the ball into goal in the 73rd minute.

Further attempts were made by both teams but the score remained the same without change and the match ended in a goalless draw.

The second leg matches of the semifinals will begin on March 2 as Al Rustaq will host Dhofar at Al Rustaq Sports Complex while on March 3 Seeb will take on Al Nasr at the Seeb Stadium.
