Seeb, Al Kamil W’al Wafi advance in Tunisia

Muscat: Oman’s representatives Seeb and Al Kamil W’al Wafi clubs delivered an impressive performance in the 40th edition of the Arab Volleyball Club Championship which is underway in Tunisia. The domestic teams managed to earn spot in the quarterfinals after advancing among the first two teams in the group.

The Muscat based team ended their group matches in second place with seven points while Bahrain’s Dar Kulaib led the group with eight points. Seeb will meet Qatar’s Al Rayyan club which ended as topper of Group B and the match will take place on Thursday.

On the other side, Oman’s Al Kamil W’al Wafi confirmed their presence in the last-eight stage after accumulating nine points from four games and ended second in the group. Qatar’s Al Rayyan topped the group with 12 points. Al Kamil W’al Wafi will face Bahrain’s Dar Kulaib in the quarterfinal on Thursday and will chase for the triumph to move forward in the Arab tourney.

Seeb were clubbed with Peshmerga (Iraq) in Group D besides Yemen’s Al Shoalah and Dar Kulaib (Bahrain) While Al Kamil W’al Wafi joined Group B which also comprised Al Rayyan (Qatar), Kuwait Club, Sadaqa (Palestine) and Ahli Tripoli (Libya).

STRONG START

Al Kamil W’al Wafi commenced the group matches strongly with a 3-1 win over Ahli Tripoli (Libya) and the second successive win was over Sadaqa (Palestine) 3-0. The third match against Kuwait Club ended for the Sultanate of Oman’s representative by 3-0. Al Kamil W’al Wafi suffered a 3-0 defeat against Al Rayyan (Qatar) in the concluding game.

Seeb, coached by the experienced national coach Jamal al Mamari, defeated Al Shoalah (Yemen) 3-0 in the opening game while they suffered a 3-2 loss against Dar Kulaib (Bahrain) in the following game. Seeb returned back to the winning ways as they edged Peshmerga (Iraq) 3-1 to move into the quarterfinal.

The seven-day Arab tournament will conclude on Saturday and featured participation of 19 teams distributed into four groups. Group A comprised of the following teams: ES Tunis, Kadhima Kuwait, Olympique Mili (Algeria) and Swehly (Libya) and Group C included AS Marsa, Senjal (Palestine), Khaybal (Yemen), Naft Al-Janoob (Iraq) and Ahli (Qatar).
