MUSCAT: The Ministry of Defence’s Engineering Services marked its annual day under the auspices of Dr Mohammed bin Nasser al Zaabi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence, on Tuesday.
The celebration, held at Al Shafaq Club of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF,) began by staging a documentary highlighting the roles undertaken by the Engineering Services in supporting SAF in various fields in addition to its developmental roles. Then, an operetta entitled ‘Haitham, the glory: we are your loyal soldiers’, was staged.
The event also witnessed traditional arts shows, plays and patriotic songs.
The celebration was attended by Maj Gen Matar bin Salim al Balushi, Commander of the Royal Army of Oman (RAO); Air Vice Marshal Khamis bin Hammad al Ghafri, Commander of the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO); Rear Admiral Saif bin Nasser al Rahbi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO); and Air Vice Marshal Engineer Saleh bin Yahya al Maskari, Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC).
The engineering services of the Ministry of Defence is one of the major supporting units of SAF. It plays a vital role in providing technical and engineering support to SAF as well as basic services such as water, electricity, sewage networks and infrastructure facilities.
The Engineering Services contribute to road construction in the governorates within the framework of the Ministry of Defence and SAF’S contribution to the comprehensive development efforts in the country. The Engineering Services possesses the comprehensive construction equipment project which is considered as a qualitative leap in the implementation of various engineering projects and systems.
