Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) on Tuesday told suppliers and commercial establishments not to hike prices of products and commodities that are currently available in the market and have been affected by the increase in oil prices.
The CPA affirmed that there is a direct coordination with the sub-committees of the directorate-generals in the governorates and the other relevant authorities to follow up the impact of higher oil prices on local markets to ensure that they won’t exploit the situation to increase the prices of commodities.
The Authority explained that it has formed teams to inspect markets in all governorates as well as a team tasked with receiving consumers’ complaints. Besides, CPA has activated its social media platforms, website and the free-of-toll consumer contact number.
Hamoud bin Said al Jabri, Director-General of Consumer Services and Market Monitoring at CPA, said the Authority is keen on sternly confronting any practices that breach consumers’ rights, calling on all suppliers to commit to the laws and regulations to avoid legal consequences.
