Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) Council on Sunday held its second meeting of 2022 under the chair of Dr Rahma Ibrahim al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Chairperson of the Council.
At the outset of the meeting, the meeting reviewed the latest developments pertaining to the university’s work in various related topics, and the executive position of various decisions and recommendations taken by the SQU Council.
The Council approved the establishment of a new programme named “Certificate of Arabic Language and Literature for Non-Native Speakers” at the Department of Arabic Language and Literature in the College of Arts and Social Sciences. This step aims to sharpen the communication skills of the learners in the field of Arabic language and literature. It also seeks to provide them with basic linguistic and literary knowledge, and introduce them to the Arab and Omani culture, so that the graduates can join various jobs that require competence in Arabic, such as working in the press and media in their countries, ministries of foreign affairs, the diplomatic and tourism fields.
During the meeting, the International Cooperation Office at the SQU presented a visual presentation on the international ranking of universities and the criteria on which the classification is based as the Council took note of the efforts exerted in this regard, as well as the challenges facing the university in the international rankings.
