Muscat, March 21
The Muscat-based International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF), held the annual general assembly meeting on Sunday under chairmanship of Mohammed bin Issa al Fairuz and in presence of all the members.
Most of the members attended the meeting physically while the presence of others were remotely. The meeting discussed several topics including acceptance of Myanmar and Uzbekistan in the membership of ITPF. During the meeting, the members approved the dates of the 2023 World ITPF championships which will take place during August 23 to 26 in South Africa.
As part of the meeting, the draw of qualifiers for the world championships took place. Egypt will host first group qualifiers and the group featured Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Palestine, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia besides hosts Egypt.
Sultanate of Oman led the second group besides Netherlands, Kuwait, Yemen, Germany, Iraq and USA. The third group comprised of hosts Pakistan, Nepal, Jordan, Libya, Iran, Australia and Syria. Sudan will host fourth group competitions besides Canada, Bahrain, India, Norway, Sri Lanka and South Africa.
Top two teams in each group will advance to the 2023 World ITPF championships which will be held in South Africa. In fourth group, South Africa guarantee their presence in the world event as they are the hosts and if they claim first or second places then the team ranked below them will move to the finals.
ITPF Chairman Mohammed bin Issa al Fairuz, said that ITPF calendar for 2021 was impacted due to the challenges of Covid-19. “Despite the difficulties, the ITPF managed to organise International Tent Pegging Traditional Championship in Duqm along with some other meetings and workshops. An educational syllabus for tent pegging was prepared by coach Daleen Paksa, head of Women Tent Pegging Committee and special thanks to her and Royal Jordanian Equestrian Federation for the top efforts,” he ended.
