Search still underway at the quarry mishap site in Ibri

Muscat: Search operations are still going to find the people trapped under the debris following the rock collapse that took place at a marble quarry worksite in the Al Aridh area of Ibri.

It may be noted that six people died in the accident.

The Inspector-General of Police and Customs and a number of members of the National Council for Emergency Management visited the accident site in Al Dhahirah Governorate to find out the progress made in search and rescue operations to find and rescue if any more people have been trapped under the rubble.

The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) said the search operations were hampered due to rockslides that continued at the site, where 55 workers were involved in the excavation work.

Residents in the area and industry experts said that such incidents happen because the contracting companies neglect occupational safety at work sites, while companies responsible for the project do not take action at the appropriate times against violators.
