Close to 300,000 expats left private sector in pandemic: Minister

Muscat: The Covid-19 pandemic, and the resulting low demand for work and other reasons including the economic downturn during 2020 and 2021 led to 292,500 expatriate workers leaving the private sector, His Excellency the Minister of Economy said.

Dr. Saeed Al-Saqri, Minister of Economy said in an interview with Oman TV: “The year 2020 and 2021 are not a measure of the performance of the private sector, due to the pandemic conditions, low demand and other reasons that led to the exit of about 300,000 workers, of them, approximately 7,500 are Omanis.”
