Muscat: The Majlis A’ Shura Economic and Financial Committee on Tuesday discussed the issue of setting an upper limit for external remittances of expatriate workers, and studied the negative consequences on the national economy as a result of the volume of these remittances.
It discussed that the investment environment in the Sultanate continues to face challenges despite the efforts undertaken by the government and the concerned authorities and felt there is a need for revisiting the legislative, procedural, and financing policies.
Also on Tuesday, the Ministry of Labor specialists reviewed statistics for the number of Omanis working in the public and private sectors and compared them with the percentages of expatriates working in this sector. The specialists also talked about initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Health to employ Oman’s female medical staff in each of the paramedical specialties and address the reasons for their reluctance to work in the private sector.
