Royal Hospital implements lead waste recycling project

Muscat: The Royal Hospital, in cooperation with Arab Lead company is implementing a project for the recycling of lead waste to produce expensive protective material.

The project is a first of a kind in Oman and in the region. It is likely that the project will be the start of several similar experiments in near future.

Dr Khalsa Zahran al Nabhani, Head of the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Department said that the department utilizes varied amounts of radioactive materials which are used for medical reasons.

The waste, she added, will be used in producing material that protects against radioactivity.
