They are driven by sheer, undying passion for stage art.
They knew no rest for several weeks and days and nights were all under the spotlight of the stage preparing the male and female artistes for the first-of-its-kind stage fest in the Sultanate of Oman.
At the recently held 2-day stage play competition, a group of 16 artistes and like-minded art aficionados staged three dramas each one a mirror juxtaposed against the realities of the society where they hail from.
Nanma Kasargod, meaning ‘The Goodness’ of the people from the district on the Kerala-Karnataka border, prepared three stage performances on two consecutive days which evoked a standing ovation from the near-packed crowd who witnessed 11 dramas at the Al Falaj hotel.
In a drama competition, the first of its kind during the post-Covid era organised by Talent Space and Theatre Oman, the Nanma Kasargod bagged five awards in different categories.
The best drama was Nam (which means us) a script by Sunil Guruvayurappan which portrayed the sharp reflections of our society, while Sreejith who donned the garbs of a man with under-grown brains in ‘Naam’ was the best actor and Shyma Dinesh from the same play the best actress. It also bagged the best director accolade. Praveen Kumar, who directed the Ananthapuriyilekkulla Theevandi, the second in the series received profound acclaim while Ashritha Renjith in the play ‘Chairs’ was selected by the special jury for ‘most promising actress’.
“This achievement can be marked as the greatest milestone in our journey yet in the field of art and cultural activities in Oman by Nanma Kasaragod,” members of the gathering that focuses on philanthropic initiatives along with art and cultural activities, said.
Nanma Kasaragod is a gathering of like-minded people which promotes the rich heritage and culture of India through various socio-cultural activities. In addition, they take an active role in meeting social responsibilities with their charity works.
