Patient Safety Friendly Primary Care launched

Muscat: The Ministry of Health (MoH), represented by the Directorate General of Quality Assurance Centre (DGQAC) in collaboration with the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO) of the World Health Organization (WHO), launched the Patient Safety Friendly Primary Care (PSFPC) initiative in Muscat on Sunday.

The aim is to expand the implementation of this initiative for the year 2022 in the Directorate General of Royal Hospital and Samayil Hospital.

The event was held under the auspices of Dr Fatma bint Mohammed al Ajmiyah, MoH Under-Secretary for Administrative, Financial & Planning Affairs, in the presence of Dr Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative to Oman along with a number of experts from the WHO.

A number of directors-general of health services in various Governorates, directors of hospitals and heads of quality departments at the hospitals attended the event.

Dr Jean Jabbour stressed that the Sultanate of Oman is committed to assuming full responsibility for improving the health system. He added that involving other hospitals in the patient safety initiative and applying the electronic reporting on adverse events is a significant achievement added to the Sultanate’s credits.

Dr Qamra al Sariri, DGQAC Director-General, touched upon the patient safety initiative, which was launched in 2016 and involved 26 health institutions in the public and private sectors.

The Ministry launched particular standards for the primary healthcare institutions in five governorates across the Sultanate of Oman; Muscat, Dhofar, South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah and al Dhahirah, as well as the Royal Hospital and Samayil Hospital.
