Haj quota increased by 2,000

Muscat: The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs on Sunday said the Haj quota for the Sultanate of Oman for this pilgrimage season has been increased by 2,000.

“The quota of pilgrims from the Sultanate of Oman for this Haj season (1443 AH) has been increased by 2,000, with a total number of 8,338 pilgrims,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs recently concluded the electronic sorting for people who e-registered for this year’s Haj Season 1443 AH.

The process has been arranged with pilgrims’ registration firms through a shared digital connection system.

The eligible applications’ quota includes 14 applicants for cancer patients, 5,381 for people who met the requirements of performing Haj, 61 for people who want to perform Haj to fulfil wills, 572 volunteers and 128 applicants who want to perform Haj on behalf of other incapable people.

Earlier, Oman’s quota for this season of Haj was 6,156, with 5,956 seats for Omanis and 200 for residents.
