Rains, thunderstorms till today

While thunderstorms are to continue on Monday over Al Hajar Mountains, the coastal areas of Sea of Oman are only to experience scattered or isolated rains, according to the weather forecaster at Oman Met Office.

The weather forecast for Monday stated that partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected over all of the governorates with chances of isolated variable rain. There are chances of convective clouds development and isolated rain occasionally thundershowers associated with downdraft and hail over Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas towards afternoon may extend to the desert areas. Cloudy to Partly cloudy skies along the coastal areas of the Dhofar Governorate and adjoining mountains and Al Wusta Governorate with chances of isolated rain occasionally thundershowers are likey.

Clouds on Sunday were spread over most of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, with the continuation of the activity of convective clouds and rainfall of varying intensity, were reported in parts of the South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Wusta and the southern parts of Al Dhahirah. The Civil Aviation Authority requested people to stay away from water bodies and wadis.

By 11 am the beginning of the formation of clouds on the Hajar Mountains was observed by Oman Met Office with opportunities to deepen them later, sporadic rain that is sometimes thunderous, accompanied by winds and the flow of valleys and reefs.

The weather forecaster at Oman Met Office said that thunder activity in southern Iran was expected to extend later to Musandam Governorate with chances of rain on Sunday but should ease by Monday.

The weather experts alerted on continuation of scattered thunderstorms in the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and the south of Al Dhahirah and Al Dakhiliyah.

The sea state was categorised as rough (4.0 m) along Arabian Sea coasts and moderate (2.0m) along the rest of the coasts. The forecast was also for chances of rain of varying intensity in the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman.

The possibility of the formation of cumulus clouds and scattered rain that will lead to thunderstorms accompanied by active downward winds and hail falling on the Hajar Mountains during the evening, with chances of its extension to the deserts was forecast as well.
