MUSCAT: Essential services in the Sultanate of Oman are running smoothly despite heavy rains and flooding of roads. The basic services sector committee under the National Committee for Emergency Management has been monitoring the effects of the weather in the country.
The competent authorities concerned with risk management in all its sub-sectors have prepared to provide basic services like roads, electricity, communications, water and sewage, fuel and waste management as per the level of potential risks.
The basic services sector, in coordination with the National Centre for Emergency Situations Management, has been following up on rain alerts issued in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the governorate municipalities, has taken all necessary measures to remove rocks and debris from roads to facilitate traffic and ensure the safety of road users.
Nama Group, which provides electricity transmission and distribution services, have restored the disrupted services in the wilayats affected by the weather.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the operators have been monitoring the telecommunications services and have taken the necessary measures.
The company licensed to provide water and sanitation services has also taken all necessary precautions to ensure the availability of services. Work is continuing to maintain some supply lines that have been affected by floods in some governorates.
In the fuel sector, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and operators have ensured fuel and cooking gas supply in rain affected governorates.
Waste management is crucial especially when the current weather conditions have coincided with Eid al Adha. A specialised company has been working to ensure the continuity of service in order to preserve public health.
Swift coordination and efforts taken by competent authorities have shown tangible results in maintaining various services in the current weather conditions.
