Low pressure to affect the Sultanate this week

The latest weather maps and analyzes of the National Multi-hazard Early Warning Center indicate that the Sultanate will be affected this week (Tuesday and Wednesday) by an extension of the low-pressure advected from India.

Sunday and Monday:

Continuation of the alert of chances of thunderstorms with varying intensity of rainfall over Al Hajar mountains, specifically on the mountainous areas located in the governorates of North Al Hannah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dhakilyah, South al Batinah, North Al Sharqiyah, and South Al Sharqiyah, and the impact is expected to extend to include the plains and deserts of Al Dhahirah and Al Dakhiliyah Governorates.

The expected impacts:

• Rainfall between 10-40 mm associated with falling hail may lead to the flow of some wadies

• Fresh downward winds gusting between 20-40 knots (40-80 kin•), sometimes can cause the movement of unstable materials.

• The rise of dust due to the fresh winds may lead to a decrease in horizontal visibility.

Tuesday and Wednesday:

The effect starts gradually over northern Governorates by the extension of the low-pressure system with the continuation of the alert of chances of thunderstorms with varying intensity of rainfall over

Governorates of South al Sharqiyah, Muscat, South Al Batinab, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah„ North al Sharqiyah, and Musandam.

The expected impacts:

• Rainfall between 30-80 mm associated with falling hail may lead to the flow of some wadis.

• Fresh downward winds gusting between 20-40 knots (40-80 km1), sometimes can cause the movement of unfixed materials.

• The rise of dust due to the fresh winds may lead to a decrease in horizontal visibility. The sea state will be rough along most of the coastal areas with a maximum wave height of 4 meters
