Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is blessed with a unique geographical diversity interspersed as it is with plains, mountains and beaches, providing adventurers and nature lovers activities such as mountaineering, adventure tours and water sports.
One such adventurer, Badr Saleem Al Salti spends most of his time climbing mountains along with other members of the Exploration and Challenge team. The team was established in 2015 and it aims to spread the culture of mountaineering and organise mountain trips in all segments of society across the country.
Badr Al-Salti told the Oman News Agency: “The nature of adventure tourism in the Sultanate of Oman in the summers is different from that of winters.
In summers, we take trips to permanent water valleys and cold caves due to soaring temperatures. During winters, we go to the mountains and deserts to practice climbing and off-road detours into the deserts.”
He added, “Even the adventure equipment differ between those used for valleys and those used in caves. The experience helps an adventurer to overcome fear and adapt quickly.”
He explained that there are a number of difficulties he is facing such as transmission interruption in the subsoil of some valleys and lack of services in some places visited by the tourists.
