Work on in full swing to mitigate effects of weather condition in Oman

Muscat: The essential services sector is working all-out to open roads and restore power supply to governorates affected by the recent weather conditions in the Sultanate. Landslides are being cleared to facilitate the movement of traffic so that field response teams can reach remote areas to restore other services like electricity, communications, water, sanitation, fuel and waste management.

A statement said, “The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the governorates’ municipalities have begun to open asphalt and dirt roads affected by rainfall in a number of governorates, where priority has been given to vital and main roads that affect the movement of basic services and commercial and economic activities.”

The statement added: “The electricity service was restored by the companies licensed to service the transmission and distribution of electricity in the Musandam Governorate, in coordination with the Royal Air Force of Oman and the Royal Oman Police, which worked to provide helicopters to transport technicians to repair faults at the power plant in Musandam Governorate, and work is still in progress on restoration of service on a number of other sites.”

The statement pointed out that fuel and cooking gas services in all governorates were not affected as stocks were ensured as a precautionary measure. Waste management services in the basic services sector continues to be affected temporarily as a result of the rainfall. The intensity varies and a number of roads are cut off. Work is underway by the licensed company to gradually restore service to normal after the effects of the weather conditions have faded.

The statement noted that citizens can communicate through call centres to request support or inquire about any aspect of the electricity, water and communications services.
