Muscat – The number of international flights arriving and departing from Muscat, Salalah and Suhar Airports recorded a growth of 113 percent to 20,640 by the end of May 2022, compared to 9,679 flights in 2021.
Statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) said the number of arrivals through the airports of Oman witnessed an increase of 135 percent, bringing the total number of incoming, outgoing, and transit passengers to 3,45,519 until the end of May 2022, while the number of departures through airports also increased 94 percent during the same period last year.
The number of incoming and outgoing flights (international and domestic) through Muscat International Airport increased 90.2 percent, with 21,930 flights carrying 2,628,203 passengers, compared to 11,533 flights in 2021 carrying 1. 235, 740 passengers during the same period.
Salalah Airport recorded an increase in the number of flights (international and domestic) by 68.9 percent with 2,743 flights until the end of May 2022.
Of these, the number of international flights through Salalah Airport increased by 162.7 percent, and domestic flights increased by 31.4 percent to reach 1,524 flights compared to 1,160 flights during the same period in 2021.
The number of passengers using domestic flights (incoming and outgoing) through Salalah Airport increased by 57.3 percent until the end of May 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.
The number of international flights (departing and arriving) from Suhar Airport reached 312 at the end of last May, and the number of passengers on international flights (incoming and outgoing) was 28,101.
As for Duqm Airport, it recorded a 6.9% increase in the number of domestic flights (departing and arriving) to 280 flights until the end of May 2022, compared to 262 flights during the same period in 2021, while the number of passengers increased by 39.7 percent to 26,263 compared to 18,804 Passengers until the end of May 2021.
The Indian nationality topped the highest number of passengers on departing and arriving flights through the airport – 125,185 passengers by the end of May 2022, followed by the Bangladeshi nationality (44,671 passengers), and the Pakistani nationality (31,191) passengers.
