The Supreme Committee may spell out details of opening-up decisions, which were announced recently, in a press conference on Thursday. It is likely to cover the school academic year, attendance in government offices, approved vaccines and air travel protocol in the background of Covid-19 pandemic in the Sultanate.
An official statement said that the press conference will explain and evaluate the Covid-19 situation, including the implementation of several decisions, which will come into effect from September 1.
“We welcome your inquiries and questions to the Supreme Committee on issues related to the measures to deal with Covid-19 at the 26th Press Conference on August 26, “ the statement added.
The Ministry of Education officials are expected to clear queries related to the general framework of school operation for the academic year 2021-2022. The ministry has already announced that public schools in Oman will start the new year from September 12 for teachers and September 19 for students.
The ministry has been encouraging private and international schools to resume normal classes this month.
Currently, all government offices in the country function with 50 per cent attendance.
A decision is awaited on whether the full presence of all government employees will be required from September 1.
“There will be procedures against any person who refuses to receive the vaccination without a medical reason, which will be announced later,” the government had warned in the last press conference.
MANDATORY
It may be noted that from September 1, vaccination will be mandatory for entry to government and private establishments, shopping malls, restaurants as well as venues hosting cultural, sports, and group activities. The heads of government units have a duty to take necessary action to implement the public safety measures.
“We expect guidelines for all stakeholders to ensure that only vaccinated people get access to our facilities,” said a senior executive of a hypermarket.
The Supreme Committee will also spell out details on the protocols for those wishing to enter the Sultanate through all land, sea, and airports.
A clarification is also expected on the vaccines that have been approved for entry into the country.
