Oman remain 75th in Fifa world ranking

Oman national football team remained at the 75th place with 1,323 points in the Fifa Men’s world ranking for August.

Fifa, the world football governing body, released on Thursday the updated ranking where there were no movements among the top 20 teams as Brazil (1,837) still leading Fifa World Ranking. Belgium (1,821) and Argentina (1,770) retained their places as second and third respectively.

At the Asian continent level, Iran (1,558.64) managed to climb up one spot to 22nd and remained as Asian top team in the latest Fifa Ranking. The other positions for Asian teams remained same as heavyweights Japan stayed second at 24th position while Korea Republic are third on 28th place. Australia were positioned at 39th while Qatar, hosts of 2022 World Cup, moved up to 48th position.

The only major changes in August were Mauritania (107th) and Botswana (146th) moving up three spots on back of some good results. That progress makes them jointly the two most-improved sides in terms of ranking positions.

On the other hand, it is expected that the Red Warriors will be back to action soon as the new season 2022-2023 started. The coaching staff headed by Branko Ivankovic are available in Muscat and busy following up closely the players performance in the league matches.

The national team’s forthcoming assignments are to compete at Arabian Gulf Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

Oman team will take part in an international friendly tournament in Jordan in September. The tournament will feature the participation of Oman, hosts Jordan, Iraq and Egypt teams.

Another camp will be scheduled for the national team in November in Dubai city which will feature strong friendly matches.

The latest presence of Oman team was in the overseas preparatory camp on June 12 in Doha city which featured two friendly games against Nepal and New Zealand. In the first warm-up match, Oman had edged Nepal 2-0 on June 3.

The Red Warriors had completed their second warm-up fixture against New Zealand on a goalless draw on June 9 at Education City Stadium.
