Al Muhannad snatches taekwondo bronze in Vietnam

Oman’s Al Muhannad bin Tawfiq al Balushi won the bronze medal in in the Asian Taekwondo Junior and Youth Championships being held in Vietnam from August 22 to 29.

Al Muhannad finished third in the junior 41 kg category.

The championships are featuring the participation of more than 350 players representing 35 countries.

Al Muhannad al Balushi’s bronze is the first medal in the history of the Sultanate of Oman in the Asian Junior Taekwondo Championship.

Al Muhannad achieved this feat under national coach Adel bin Khalifa al Wahaibi.

The Omani youngster outperformed the players of Vietnam, Kazakhstan and Korea on way to win the bronze.

Oman taekwondo team continues to participate in the tournament.

Al Mutassim bin Ali al Maskari is taking part in junior 49 kg.

In the youth category, Hafez bin Salem al Maskari (49 kg) and Omar bin Mahmoud al Sinani (59 kg) and Mohammed bin Rashid al Hajri (63 kg) are representing Oman.

Among Oman’s previous participations, Omani players were able to win 8 medals at the Fujairah International and the Arab Championship in the UAE in February under national coach Adel bin Khalifa al Wahaibi.

Oman won 3 silver and 5 bronze medals in the Arab Championship in the UAE.

Ali bin Saleh al Hashemi claimed the bronze medal in 87 kg category and Mohammed bin Rashid al Hajri won the bronze in 55 kg.

In the women’s section, Fatima al Ghamariyah won bronze in 42 kg, Al Mutassim bin Ali al Maskari and Hayat bint Haitham al Maskariyah won two medals in the 59 kg.

Al Muhannad bin Tawfiq al Balushi won the bronze in the junior 41 kg category.

The Fujairah International Championship featured 1,800 male and female players from 70 countries.

Al Mutassim bin Ali al Maskari won the silver in men’s 48 kg and Hoor bint Salem al Maskariyah took the bronze in the junior 33 kg category.
