The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) issued a circular to the units of the state’s administrative apparatus and government and private companies regarding the national policy for digital access.
It urged them to ensure fair and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and the elderly to access services and information available on ICT platforms and remove all barriers.
The ministry called on the units of the state’s administrative apparatus and government and private companies to start transforming their digital services published on websites and mobile applications and enhancing them with digital access and including “accessibility” as a required feature in ICT purchases, in accordance with international standards followed to help employees with disabilities to perform the functional tasks entrusted to them
Authorities supervising the private sector should obligate these institutions to design and upgrade their current sites and platforms in line with international standards for digital access.
It is noteworthy that the National Policy for Digital Access aims to ensure that all members of society in the Sultanate of Oman have access to ICT platforms and benefit from their advantages and opportunities and prospects.
