Salalah: The number of passengers through Salalah Airport during the Khareef (monsoon season 2022) stood at 463,848 during the period between June 21 and September 21, 2022. The figure constituted a rise by 46% compared to the same period in 2021.
Salim Awadh al Yafei, Executive Vice President of Salalah Airport told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the number of flights during the Khareef season reached 3,385 inbound and outbound flights, comprising an increase by 49% compared to the same period in 2021.
Al Yafei pointed out that August saw the highest average of weekly flights reaching 352.
Al Yafei said that all GCC states operated direct flights to Salalah Airport during the Khareef season in 2022, including Wizz Air, Fly Dubai, Gulf Air, Jazeera Airways, Kuwait Airways, Flynas and Qatar Airways.
He added that Salalah Airport saw buzzing air traffic as Oman Air operated 1,372 domestic flights during the Khareef season, while domestic flights by SalamAir stood at 648 during the period from June 21 to September 21, 2022.
As far as preparation for the upcoming winter season is concerned, Al Yafei said that 8 direct flights per week will be operated from Slovakia, Italy, Poland and the Czech Republic starting from November 2022 to March 2023.
Moreover, the Khareef season is characterized by marvellous, exceptional tropical weather and moderate temperatures, which makes it a unique destination for visitors and tourists from Oman and other countries.
