CAA chairman inspects work on the southern runway

Muscat – Eng. Nayef bin Ali al Abri, chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and the technical team visited Muscat International Airport to see the progress of work on the projects, including the rehabilitation of the southern runway and the hangar building.

Galfar Engineering and Contracting was awarded to project to rehabilitate the southern runway and air corridors of Muscat International Airport in October last year.

“The project valued at RO21 is expected to be completed in 16 months,” the company said at the time of its filing in the Muscat Securities Index.

The project is expected to contribute to the company’s revenues and help boost its presence in such vital infrastructure projects.

The new northern runway at Muscat International Airport was officially opened in December 2014 and an Oman Air’s A330 aircraft was the first plane to land at the new runway.

As the new northern became functional in January 2015, the old or southern runway was closed for rehabilitation.
