The first stage of the Oman Cycling Association (OCA) League Championship will begin with a team time trial event for 45 km distance at Al Sawadi on Saturday.
The OCA League Championship includes eight stages featuring 18 cycling teams of Sultanate of Oman.
The teams include A’Salam Club, Elevate Cycling Team, , Al Musannah Club, Brothers Team, F4S, Qurayat Club, Sur Club, Izki Club, Elite Team, Salalah Club, Ironbros, Oman Club, Bahla Club, Capital Team, Wave Riders, Oman Royal Army, Gulf Cycles and Cycle KOM NRO.
Cycle KOM team captain Paul Willcox said his team is raring to go in the team time trial race after their impressive outing in the Tour of Salalah recently.
“After the success of finishing second to the UAE national team in the Tour of Salalah, Cycle KOM are excited to kick off the OCA Championship.”
“We are looking to defend the red jersey for David Hynes and green jersey of myself,” the cyclist from United Kingdom told Oman Daily Observer.
“The league also expands its reach to new venues such as Izki, Sur and Suhar. It is good for the promotion of the sport in the different parts of the country and also provides some variety to the new season,” Willcox added.
The second stage of the OCA League will be a road race at Seeb Airport Loop on next Friday, October 28.
The third race will be staged at Wadi Muharram as a road race on November 11.
Wakan will host the fourth stage, a road race on November 25.
The fifth stage of the OCA League Championship is tentatively scheduled for Suhar or Al Buraimi as a road race on December 9.
The sixth race returns to Al Sawadi on December 30.
In the New Year, the OCA League will hold its last two stages.
The seventh stage will be an individual time trial at Wadi Al Abyadh on January 13, 2023.
The last and eighth stage will be road race in Sur on February 24.
