Saplings of 1,300 mangrove trees planted in Khor Shinas

The Environment Authority on Wednesday planted saplings of 1,300 mangrove trees in Khor Shinas in North Al Batinah Governorate. More than 100 people, including school students, took part in the event.

This is part of the national initiative to plant 10 million trees across the Sultanate of Oman. Khor Shinas, in particular, is considered one of the most important mangroves sites in the governorate.

The number of mangroves in Khor Shinas reached 50,000, since the beginning of the cultivation campaigns in 2008.

The mangrove cultivation campaigns will continue in Khor Shinas as well as in other areas of the Wilayat of Shinas.

The Environment Authority is intensifying campaigns to plant and preserve mangroves in these sites.

Mangroves are important for the marine environment. It can preserve environmental balance and act as a storm barrier. They are home to fish and other marine creatures.
