The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) has announced it funded 349 research proposals with RO 1,953,272 under Block Funding Programme 2022.
The Block Funding Programme 2022 supported research under following categories: research grants for PhD holders or its equivalent; graduate research grants (GRG) for master’s or bachelor’s degree holders; undergraduate research grants (URG) for students of higher education institutions; and graduate research grants for students studying abroad at their own expense.
For the RG category, the number of funded research projects has reached 120 with RO 20,000 per project a maximum period of two years, while 103 research projects were funded in the GRG category with RO 3,000 per project as a maximum. Student research projects number 126 with a maximum amount of RO 1,500 per project in the URG category.
As for the GRG-Abroad category, 16 research proposals have been funded with an amount of up to RO 3,000 per project as a maximum.
The number of governmental and private academic and non-academic institutions benefiting from this year’s support has reached 31 institutions, and this support comes with the aim of building local research capacity, providing a stimulating research environment for research and researchers, and building their capacities at various academic levels.
The Block Funding Programme seeks to activate the role of academic and research institutions and support research that contributes to the implementation of the national priorities and achieve practical, applicable results that raises the standards of the Sultanate of Oman in the fields of research and innovation.
