Meethaq Islamic Banking from Bank Muscat will take part in the Third edition of the Zakat Conference and Exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs from 23 to 25 September 2025 at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate. The event will be attended by a number of ministers, dignitaries, senior officials from the public and private sectors, representatives of zakat committees across the governorates, as well as experts and stakeholders from within and outside the Sultanate.
Meethaq’s participation as a strategic partner in the conference comes in line with its vision to uphold Islamic values, strengthen collaboration with stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, and contribute to raising awareness on the importance of zakat as a tool for promoting social justice and solidarity within the community.
On the first day of the conference, Meethaq will present a workshop titled “Governance in Islamic Banking and Its Role in Zakat Management”, while on the third day, it will also deliver a paper on “Malaysia’s Experience in Zakat Management and Governance” presented by Dr. Mohammed Akram, Deputy Chairman of the Sharia Supervisory Board at Meethaq Islamic Banking
Over the course of three days, the conference sessions will address a variety of topics including governance and accounting standards in zakat fund management, empowering the role of women in zakat committees, reviewing Shari’a regulations and professional competencies of zakat workers, the civilizational identity of zakat institutions, community culture, Fiqh of zakat and contemporary challenges. The event will also highlight Omani models in charity and zakat work as well as selected international experiences.
