Oman Flour Mills Company SAOG (OFM), a leading food company, announced the successful completion of a large-scale pilot commercial trial using a chlorella-based solution in broiler poultry farming. This innovative natural alternative contributes to promoting the concept of healthy and organic farming, marking the first initiative of its kind in the Sultanate and the region, and opening new horizons for sustainable livestock production.
The chlorella solution is characterized by its rich composition of high-quality proteins, essential amino acids, chlorophyll, carotenoids, vitamins, and minerals, making it an effective natural ingredient that contributes to boosting the immune system of birds, improving digestive health, and enhancing nutrient absorption.
The company conducted the trial in two identically designed poultry farms in North Al Batinah Governorate, each housing 10,000 birds. The first farm followed the conventional farming system, while the second relied solely on adding the chlorella solution to the drinking water. The results showed that the birds that received the Chlorella solution remained healthy and exhibited normal growth rates, even exceeded expectations with an unexpected weight gain of 200 grams per bird by the 28th day.

Mr. Haitham bin Mohamed Al Fannah, CEO of Oman Flour Mills, affirmed that this achievement represents a turning point in the poultry sector, thanks to these trials, which reflect the company’s commitment to innovation, supporting farmers, and enhancing food security in the Sultanate and the region. He added that the company is determined to conduct further studies to expand the scope of trials in different environments and over longer periods, with the aim of establishing this solution as a strategic option for the future.

Al Fannah pointed out that if the upcoming studies prove successful and both laboratory and field results are confirmed, OFM will become the first company in the Sultanate and the region to adopt chlorella production on a large commercial scale. This would pave the way for a new phase of innovative agricultural and food solutions, enabling the company to meet local market needs while opening opportunities for exports to regional and international markets, thereby solidifying the Sultanate’s position as a leading hub in adopting innovative agricultural and food solutions.
