Volunteers asked to join tree planting efforts in cyclone-hit areas

Muscat: Volunteers have been asked to report to cyclone-hit areas to help replant trees that were washed away during cyclone Shaheen.

The initiative, which is spearheaded by the Environment Authority, will take place on 20 and 21 October.

Those who wish to volunteer have to fill in a Google Form, the address of which is pinned to the authority’s Twitter page, @ea_oman.

“The Environment Authority invites you to participate and volunteer in the campaign to tend to damaged trees, and replant wild trees in affected areas, in the aftermath of cyclone Shaheen, on Wednesday and Thursday, 20 and 21 October,.” said the EA in a statement.

As parts of efforts to increase green cover in Oman, the RA also planted 2,000 mangrove seedlings in the Wilayat of Al Jazer in the central Wusta region.

“The Marine Environment Conservation Department, in coordination with the Environment Department in Al Wusta, implemented a campaign to plant 2,000 mangrove seedlings in Khor Qaysad in the Wilayat of Al-Jazer, as part of the efforts made by the commission to implement the planting of 10 million trees,” added the EA.
