Muscat: A radiotherapy team from the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre has conducted the first operation of cancerous tumour using radio surgery machine ” Cyper KnifeS7 “. It is a high quality device for treatment of tumours including brain and lung tumours in not more than five treatment sessions.
On launching the machine, Dr. Zahid Abdullah Al Mantheri, Head of Radiotherapy Department, said: “We started the treatment programme for three cases of brain tumour, spine tumour and bone tumour”. The treatment would take a few sessions ranging between one to five sessions, he said. The machine would contribute to treatment of a number of cases of tumour, he added.
Dr. Iqbal Al Ameri, a radiotherapist at the centre said a number of employees from the centre have attended training in the United States at the main training centre of the machine’s manufacturing company besides other online training sessions. The preparations for using the machine have taken a few months before the treatment started, she added.
